Crime Scene Investigation

Jake and Emma arrived at the apartment, the scene of the incident, just before the date changed. In the dim lighting, scattered documents and broken furniture lay before them.

"Looks like someone ransacked the place, which means..." Jake, who had been crouching to examine the documents, stood up and continued, "The mess was intentional. They definitely took 'something.' But this doesn't seem like a random robbery for money."

Emma, who had been taking photos of the scene, turned to Jake and nodded slightly, indicating she shared his sentiment.

Using the small flash built into her camera, she tried to capture as many traces as possible. She strongly felt that there was more to this case than met the eye.

"Look at this," called Jake, moving to the next room. Emma carefully stepped over the documents and followed him.

Prompted by Jake, she leaned over the desk beside the sofa and saw a small piece of note paper. On it was a strange message.
